Artwork for the Billboard’s Nr 1 rockband KALEO

I will never forget my Valentine’s Day 2019- not for no fancy-date-business. On that day the manager of KALEO (Triple 8 Management) wrote this to me:

“Hi Kas – I’m KALEO’s manager. I was forwarded your email about the work you do and I passed it on to JJ – KALEO’s frontman. So glad to hear you’re a fan and that our music inspires you and your art.  We may be interested in having you create a portrait out of many portraits(…)”

It took a good couple of months the exchange that later took place. Kelly has sent me 14 pictures chosen for my project, out of which I have created the artwork below. You can read about the whole process and concept in a form of presentation, that KALEO has also received. On 14th of May, so a 3 months later I received such priceless feedback from Kelly Kresen.

“Thank you SO much for your time and effort you put into creating this work of art for us. (…)”

Up till now I cannot believe I have created an artwork for a band that received Gold in US for their A/B Album and peaked at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Alternative Songs and Rock Airplay charts. I can’t wait on the new Album! Check out my process below:)

LensCulture Magazine review of my work

LensCulture review:
“This irritatingly hypnotic work pushes beyond
photography and really sinks into illustration. There is a quality to this work which I can envision going viral
with the proper online placement. (…)”

It is one of the “sparkly” moments of my career as a designer/ artist/ photographer.

I received an amazing insightful review of my work (conceptual photography series) by LensCulture Magazine, one of the most established media within the scope of contemporary photography.

I am proud to share it in full below, below my remarks about the questions stated in the review.

I will tell you about NR5. The whole series is about ruining order. But I ruined the order in a certain order;)

Therefore, I had to ruin the new order one more time, to show that dealing with imperfection is a process that never stops, we can only accept constant changes.

The “smiley” represents my acceptance of imperfection of my own work, and that I treat myself and the process of creating with a proper distance. It also brings a new layer of the truth I wanted to present in this work. There is great beauty in imperfection and great amount of comfort in accepting imperfection as a life approach.

I pick carefully competitions, which I compete in. This one is amazing for a lot of reasons, but mostly for it’s authenticity.

ABSOLUT Vodka has collaborated with artists from all over the world since 1980s. All created artworks seem relevant up till now and still looks inspiring.

I find it great, for a brand to support artists and art in such tremendous way. It would be a privilege to find myself within ABSOLUT collaborators, but, in fact, even the possibility of competing is amazing.

As inspiration I picked the brand’s statement: “No matter where we are from we are all humans” and created a patchwork face combining pictures of women of different ethnicities.

Below submitted works (all contestants were allowed to submit 3 pieces):

I am absolutely in love with the result, especially that the above statement is so relatable to me, for personal reasons and I can just hope the future brings more acceptance and love towards our differences, embracing our differences as a way of creating something extraordinary.

Want to know more? You can take a walk with ABSOLUT to check out brand’s most important collaborations with artist since 1980:

Wish me luck to get to the big finale, results will be available end of March, and then half of May we will find out, who the winner is!

How to turn your video into comics for free!

It’s January 2019, all designers write long stories about Design Trends 2019, so I will not, at least not today.

As usual, I have way cooler news, that are not easy to come across, but your business can benefit from it in so many ways…

My entry at LensCulture B&W Photo Awards

This year for the first time I got an individual invitation participate in LensCulture Black & White Photography Awards based on some experimental portrait photography I created last year. I decided to participate with a different type of pictures- it is concept art composite photography, presenting a study of lost or ruined perfection…

Illustrated campaigns

G-star Raw illustrated campaign

G-star Raw presented the most sustainable jeans ever in the form of a short illustrated movie advertised in the social media. Simplistic drawings in blue / indigo / navy teach the customer about the process of jeans production and the amount of pollution resulting from standard processes of dying the fabric. The drawing style is quite similar to what we have seen in the music video for Arctic Monkeys “Do I wanna know” (below).
